Parents prove son is a father
THE parents of a man who denied being the father of a 3-year-old girl had a DNA test and proved the blood tie between their son and granddaughter, according to Putuo District People’s Court.
The man surnamed Xu met a woman surnamed Cai in 2013. They cohabited but once Cai became pregnant, Xu left her, the court said. As Cai found it hard to raise the baby by herself, she asked Xu to pay child maintenance. He refused and denied he was the girl’s father. So, Cai filed a lawsuit to the court.
It was hard for judges to contact Xu because he didn’t pick up phone calls and he often changed jobs and moved frequently. So, the judges turned to his parents.
They agreed to undergo DNA testing and results showed the girl is their granddaughter.
Under the court’s mediation, they have agreed to pay child maintenance, which wasn’t disclosed, and offered an extra sum of 10,000 yuan (US$1,450) as compensation to Cai.
