Party congress ends with new leaders elected
THE 10th Shanghai Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China will conclude today with the election of a new CPC Shanghai Committee.
The city's new Party leaders will attend a press conference around 5pm at the Expo Center in Pudong.
During the five-day congress, delegates passed a report by the current committee to review its work in the past five years and set new goals for years ahead.
The delegates were encouraged for the first time to make proposals on improving the working system of the Party. The congress received 123 proposals covering a wide range of topics from economic transformation to the establishment of an accountability system and better management of Party affairs.
Nearly 800 delegates, averaging 45 years old, took part in the congress.
