Police ask restaurants for parking support
CITY traffic police have begun distributing notices to roadside restaurants in an effort to elicit support for a crackdown on illegal parking on city streets.
Last night a team of officers swooped on Xingguo Road in Changning District, where about a dozen cars were parked in a non-motor lane outside Yuan Yuan Restaurant.
Some drivers who came out of the restaurant to find tickets on their cars told Shanghai Daily that they couldn't find parking spots or that the restaurant staff had told them it was legal to park there.
The police asked the restaurant’s manager to make sure that in future diners are informed about the parking rules.
A woman who lives next door said illegal parking had long been a problem and that the restaurant had repeatedly ignored her complaints.
