Police detain lovelorn arsonist

A MAN who tried to set fire to a gate at a community center in Qingpu District where he thought his wife was having an affair has been detained by police.
The man, surnamed Zhu, went to the center in Zhonggu Town on March 17. As he poured gasoline onto the gate he was spotted by the center’s owner, surnamed Lu, and Lu’s son. As the pair tried to stop him, gasoline splashed on to all three men and ignited when Zhu tried to set the gate alight.
Zhu fled before police arrived on the scene but was later apprehended at the Shanghai Ruijin Hospital where he had gone for treatment.
Lu and his son also required hospital treatment for their burns.
