Police find 700kg of fireworks at house
POLICE in Jinshan District are waiting to speak to the owner of 35 boxes of fireworks confiscated from a house in Fengjing Town.
Officers raided the property on Saturday after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public who said he had bought firecrackers there.
Police said yesterday they found the boxes, which contained 700 kilograms of assorted squibs, on the third floor of the family home.
The alleged owner is currently out of town, but will be questioned on his return, they said.
His parents claimed the fireworks were purchased from a supplier in east China’s Jiangxi Province and had been stored in the house since the beginning of last year, they said.
If convicted, the owner could face a fine of up to 100,000 yuan (US$15,200), police told Shanghai Daily.
Meanwhile, a man has been detained for storing 350 boxes of fireworks at a house in Jiading District.
The haul occupied the whole of the first floor of the building, while the owner lived in the rooms above, local police said.
