Police pull over plateless race car

A trainee driver wearing plastic flip flops was caught driving an unlicensed race car in the Pudong New Area on Thursday morning, said police.

The black-and-red high-performance vehicle was traveling along Houtan Road when it was stopped by police at Guozhan Road at about 10:30am while en route to Broad Auto Theme Park.

The driver, surnamed Feng, who was working for a motorsport company, will lose all 12 points on his driving license, which will be revoked, and faces a 200-yuan (US$30) fine for driving a plateless vehicle.

Race cars are not allowed on ordinary roads in China.

“It doesn’t have a plate. It’s a race car,” Feng told officers when asked if the vehicle was registered.

“It shouldn’t be on the road, but the auto theme park is just a few hundred meters away,” he told Shanghai television station.
