Poor airline communication ruins holidays

A Shanghai-based airline has promised to improve communication with VIP lounges at local airports after several of its passengers missed a flight because they were not informed that it was time to board.

Seven Juneyao Airlines passengers, including five resting in a lounge at Pudong International Airport, waited for several hours last Friday after their flight was delayed, only to find that their aircraft had taken off without them.

“We realize there have been some communication problems between the airline and VIP lounges at the airport,” the airline said in a statement.

Flight HO1331 from Pudong to Okinawa in Japan was scheduled to take off around 3pm but failed to leave the ground until 5pm due to heavy fog, the airline said. The boarding gate was also changed.

Two passengers waiting at the original boarding gate missed the flight, but were put on another flight the next day.

The other five passengers paid to gain admission to the No.66 VIP lounge, which is owned by the airport authority, the airline said.

“The lounge has no arrangement with the airline, so the passengers were not informed when the aircraft was about to take off,” said the airline.

“Our holiday trip turned out to be a full-day visit to the airport lounge,” one passenger complained.

The airline has apologized to the passengers and said it will address the problem, according to the statement.
