Power firm uses drones to settle bills
A SALESMAN for a power company yesterday accused fisheries in Qingpu District of trying to cheat power companies by not paying their bills.
Many such firms try to cut their costs by not paying for power, Shen Wei said in a press release issued by the Qingpu supply arm of Shanghai Power Co.
Shen said his company used drones to snoop on fisheries that were believed to be using electricity but not paying for it.
Drones fitted with cameras took images of oxygen pumps in use, which “proved” the fisheries were using power, he said.
As a result, the power company was able to retrieve 250,000 yuan (US$39,000) owed by 32 fisheries for unpaid bills, he said, without elaborating.
Nearly half of all fisheries in the west of Qingpu try to evade paying for electricity, Shen said.
