Quality issues with humidifiers

MORE than one third humidifiers that were checked by the city’s quality watchdog failed tests for design and instructions that could pose safety risks.

The Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau checked 30 batches of humidifiers and found 11 of them to be substandard.

Lezhong, Meiyueda and Comefresh branded humidifiers had serious quality problems for both designs and warnings, while Duolang, Haoqi and Deerma brands were faulted only for structural problems.

The shape and decoration of eight batches of humidifiers could be mistaken by children for toys, while incomplete and vague signs in indexes such as frequency and electric voltage would probably lead to fire and combustion, the bureau warned.

The substandard products have been taken off shelves.
