Quilts not up to scratch

OVER a quarter of silk quilts checked by the city’s quality watchdog failed tests for fiber content, pH index and had unmatched filler content compared with that marked on the label, officials said yesterday.

A batch made by Juyuan Textile Product Co Ltd in Zhejiang Province and sold on yhd.com failed for high pH index, which irritates the skin, and filler content, the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said.

Another batch sold at the Qingpu outlet of CenturyMart and produced by Shanghai Enhui Textile Product Co was sub-standard for filler content and labelling.

Quilts made by Shanghai Xiaomianyang Co and sold by the Baoshan outlet of Tesco failed for filler content, which did not match the quality as marked on the label.

Also on the list of substandard silk quilts was a batch made by Shanghai Songjin Silk Co and sold on Tmall.com, which failed on filler content.

The bureau tested 80 batches of silk quilts and found 21 substandard. The results are preliminary and investigations are continuing.
