Raped woman extorted with video threat

A MAN has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for raping a woman and extorting 10,000 yuan (US$1,464) from her by threatening to spread online a video he secretly recorded of them having sex.

The man surnamed Cheng met the woman through the Internet and learned she had just broken up with her boyfriend.

He asked to have sex with her, offering 1,100 yuan. The woman, depressed, agreed.

The two had sex in a hotel on Valentine's Day while Cheng secretly recorded the encounter with a laptop.

Two months later, Cheng sent a message to the woman, asking for another sexual contact.

She turned him down, and he threatened to spread the recorded video online, the court heard.

The woman had to give in and asked Cheng to delete the video after they had sex.

Cheng deleted the video in the laptop in front of her but kept the backup document.

Though the victim changed her cell phone number, Cheng found her in September when she logged in to QQ, an Internet chatting tool.

Cheng sent her part of the video. The victim offered to pay for the video.

Cheng's price: 10,000 yuan and another sexual intercourse.

Last October 14, Cheng met the victim in a cafe. When he took the 10,000 yuan, he was caught by police.

Changning District People's Court declared Cheng guilty of rape because he had sex with the victim by means of threat and extortion for demanding money from her.
