Rare bird arrives in Shanghai
TWENTY Scarlet Ibises (Eudocimus ruber) are on show at Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
It is the first time the world's most endangered bird has been displayed in Shanghai, Xinmin Evening News reported today.
The Scarlet Ibis comes from tropical South America, where it prefers swampy environments such as mud flats and shallow bays.
They are completely scarlet, except for black wing-tips, and look like leaping flames when they take off.
These Ibises come from the Netherlands and have been paired off in the hope they will breed in Shanghai.
They usually live 15 years in the wild and 20 years in captivity.
