Recidivist, accomplice sent to jail for larceny

A MAN was sentenced to 12 years in prison for larceny involving more than 120,000 yuan (US$18,540), the second jail term he will face after having served 15 years for drug dealing, a city court said yesterday.

The man, Wang Feng, was also fined 25,000 yuan, according to the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.

His accomplice, Yang Shiming, got 10 years.

The victim, Zhao Dong, was tricked into parting with 1.5 million yen, which he wanted to convert into Chinese RMB. Wang switched the envelope and the duo fled from the hotel where the meeting took place, the court said.

The duo was caught the next day and police found Wang had exchanged the yen into Chinese currency totaling about 120,000 yuan and divided the cash with Yang.

Wang, 41, was freed from prison in 2009 after serving 15 years for drug dealing.
