Report ban breakers
MEMBERS of the public are being urged by the Shanghai Commerce Commission to report any poultry traders, markets and vendors attempting to flout this year’s seasonal ban on live poultry sales.
During the ban from February 19 to April 30, traders must only take live poultry to slaughterhouses in the city, the commission stressed. Market managers and vendors will be fined if found to be involved in live poultry sales during the ban, the commission added. Shanghai has banned the live poultry trade across the city seasonally in recent years in an effort to prevent and control bird flu. Jing’an and Huangpu districts have banned the trade permanently.
