THE sales of lottery in Shanghai in 2014 was nearly eight times that of 2000, while the lottery sales nationwide during the same period was over 20 times, a report by Shanghai Normal University said.
The report, released over the weekend, said sports lotteries were the most popular with a sales figure of 8.6 billion yuan (US$1.31 billion) — accounting for 64 percent of the total lottery sales. The per capita expense on sports lotteries was 352 yuan and the year-over-year increase was about 88 percent.
The total national sales volume in 2014 was 382.4 billion yuan — 268 billion yuan more than the sales in gaming industry, and 353 billion yuan higher than the box-office earnings.
The public welfare fund raised by lottery sales between 2000 and 2014 was 497.4 billion yuan — 28 percent of which was used in social security fund.
The lottery sales in China will increase and keep pace with economic growth.
