Resident calls cops when crocodile breaks free
A RESIDENT called Fengxian District police this morning to say that a stunned crocodile that he took home after picking it up from the expressway yesterday had woken up and shaken off the tape he'd used to seal its mouth.
The resident, surnamed Hu, said he found the crocodile when he was driving on the Outer Ring Expressway near Cao'an Road at about 10pm, police said.
He told police the crocodile was stunned and had its mouth sealed with a rubber belt. Hu said he took it home and secured it with sealing tape.
But the crocodile made quick work of the tape, and Hu was scared.
The reptile was taken to the police station and identified as a Siamese crocodile. It's 1.63 meters long and weighs over 50 kilograms.
The crocodile will be sent to Shanghai Zoo today, according to Eastday.com. Police said it might have fallen off a truck.
