Safety agency boss sacked over Party violations

QI Jun, director and Party chief of the Shanghai Work Safety Administration, has been dismissed from the Party and removed from his post for serious violations of Party discipline, the Shanghai Commission of Discipline Inspection said yesterday.

Qi had ganged together with others and confronted inspections, the commission said in a statement.

Investigation found he had violated the Party’s frugality rules, attending banquets and other entertainment activities that might influence the fairness of his duty execution, said the commission, adding that he had also accepted gifts and cash and exchanged favors for sex.

He was also found to have violated Party discipline by not reporting his mandatory personal information.

Qi was suspected of bribery, taking advantage of his post to seek profit for others and accepting property and money personally or via others.

He was also suspected of secretly distributing state-owned assets to individuals.

As a Party leader and cadre, Qi had lost his vision and beliefs, becoming corrupt and degenerate, said the commission, adding he had severely damaged the political atmosphere in the department and violated Party discipline. He continued his violations after the Party introduced frugality rules and strengthened discipline inspection in 2012. His illegal gains were confiscated.
