Shanghai upgrades security level in Metro network
THE security level in the city's Metro network will be strengthened after the bomb attack in St Petersburg.
The Metro police said on Friday that it will work with the Metro operator, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, to upgrade the security level with additional measures.
Shanghai Metro’s daily traffic has reached more than 10 million trips by commuters.
The measures include sending more police patrolling in the network, enhancing coordination with local police stations to cover Metro exits under local police’s patrolling area, increasing inspections on luggage and passengers, and tightened surveillance monitoring.
The authority said it will work with local police stations to launch more emergency exercises regularly to improve their abilities in on-site controlling and evacuating traffic under emergency circumstances.
Passengers are more likely to be asked to have their luggage go through machine examinations or open their bags for inspections, to prevent flammable or hazardous products like explosives from entering the Metro network. The police dogs patrolling areas will also be expanded.
The authority added it will also strengthen random ID checks, particularly on those carrying hazardous products or trying to escape security inspections.
Security machines will also be upgraded gradually to ensure safety, at the same time allow the passengers go through the inspections faster.
