Shanghai's last county Chongming set to become a district

The city’s last remaining county, Chongming, will become a District soon as the Shanghai government works to improve the city’s layout and promote the areas’ sustainable development.
That will mean significant changes in its administrative division, organization framework and economic, social and administrative management function and rights.
Chongming will be transformed from a countryside county to an urban area, ensuring the government’s resource allocation in all areas.
Public services will be improved and will be equal to that of other districts.
The transformation will boost Chongming’s economic development with residents enjoying the same level of benefits in transport, housing, travel, culture and entertainment, agriculture, education and health care.
