Silk quilts lose sheen in testing

QUILTS made by well-known local manufacturers have failed quality tests, the city’s quality watchdog said yesterday.

Silk quilts made by local textile brand Shanghai Homes were found to have incorrectly labeled fiber content, in a recent inspection by the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau.

And a batch of velvet quilts made by the same company had problems with a high pH index. A high pH index can lead to skin allergies and vulnerability to bacteria.

The same problem was found with quilts made by Shanghai Yinge Textile Co. The products also failed previous inspections due to a high pH index.

The bureau checked 30 batches of quilts and found seven to be substandard.
