Stalker ends up in court
A stalker, who was jailed and deported from Japan after becoming infatuated with a Chinese woman, has been ordered to stop harassing her and to pay 20,000 yuan (US$2,910) as compensation, Changning District People’s Court said yesterday.
The man surnamed Liu, 32, fell in love with the woman surnamed Zhang, 30, at first sight in their workplace in 2012. She did not encourage his affections, but Liu’s infatuation with her caused him to try to obtain information about her, including her ID number, address, travel plans and relatives’ details, the court said.
He turned up at her home address and bombarded her with a barrage of messages, phone calls and cash gifts.
In one instance, he threw presents to her from a car window. Whenever she planned to take a plane, he was there at the airport waiting for her, the court said.
In 2015, Liu flew to Japan to visit Zhang’s mother. He went from door to door in a local residential complex to find her, scaring residents. For that, he received a suspended sentence and was extradited to China, but that didn’t stop his efforts to get in touch with Zhang, the court said.
She turned to the police, but Liu still did not curb his behavior. Finally, she sued him.
According to the court, Liu illegally obtained Zhang’s personal information and harassed her and her family for nearly four years, giving them no peace and greatly damaging Zhang’s mental health. He was convicted of breaching Zhang’s personal rights and privacy, the court said.
