Starting orders for charity runners

THIS year's Shanghai Charity Run will be held on October 10. People can sign up for the event from today, the Shanghai Charity Foundation said yesterday.

The run, organized by the foundation and Amway China, will start from the Century Park, passing Jinxiu Road, Fangdian Road and Huamu Road, and finish in the park, a total distance of about 4 kilometers, officials said.

The run, formerly the Terry Fox Run, raises money for cancer research.

The deadline for entries is October 9 and local Amway and Xtep branch stores and the foundation's district branches will accept registrations.

After the run, the foundation will hold a charity carnival in the park. About 15,000 people are expected to take part in the run. Amway China has promised to donate 50 yuan (US$7.32) to the foundation for each entrant.

Up to last year, the run had raised about 4 million yuan for cancer research. In 2006, the foundation established a charity cancer study center with Ruijin Hospital.
