Student accused of slashing teacher's throat, killing him, over cell phone

A STUDENT accused of killing his teacher by cutting his throat over a cell phone on Saturday at Linchuan No. 2 Middle School in Jiangxi Province turned himself in to police in the Pudong New Area this morning, the Beijing News reported.
The victim, surnamed Sun, 32, who had been a chemistry teacher at the school for five years, had confiscated the cell phone of a student surnamed Lei when he was using it in class on Friday, according to Xiong Haishui, principal of the school. The teacher returned the phone to Lei's parents when they went to the school.
Lei complained about Sun the next day, but a vice principal calmed him down, the report said.
But at 11:26am, Lei used a knife to kill Sun while Sun was preparing lessons in the office, the report said.
Another teacher heard Sun scream and made an emergency call, but the teacher was dead when the ambulance arrived, officials said.
Lei, who is under 18, fled and turned himself in at a police station in Pudong, the report said.
