Suspected swindler held

A MAN has been detained by police in Huangpu District on suspicion of cheating more than 180,000 yuan (US$29,000) from a “client.” The suspect, surnamed Liang, told his alleged victim that he had friends in high places who could help him acquire a permanent residence permit for Shanghai.

Job ‘agents’ detained

EIGHT people have been detained on suspicion of placing fake advertisements for high-paying jobs at China Commercial Aircraft Corp and other well-known companies, then charging would-be employees a fee for handling their applications, police in the Pudong New Area said. The gang is accused of staging the scam in February.
