Taxi driver fired over card theft

A Shanghai taxi driver’s business license was revoked and he was banned from working in the industry for five years after he lent his license to a friend, who then stole a prepaid transport card, officials said yesterday.
The city’s traffic enforcement department received a report on June 26 that a passenger’s card was discreetly swapped with another one by the driver of a taxi. The taxi company said it fired the driver after an investigation.
The department said it dealt with 5,520 violations involving taxis in the first half of the year, up 20 percent from the same period of last year.
