Teacher forgets bag containing 38 student passports at city railway station

A teacher at a local international school left behind a bag containing 38 passports belonging to students at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, which were returned to the school by railway police yesterday.

The bag containing 38 passports was found near a security checkpoint at the entrance of Hongqiao Railway Station at 7:35am on Tuesday. According to railway police, the passports were from countries including the UK, Finland, Argentina and Canada. The bag also contained some clothing with the British International School Shanghai’s logo.

The school confirmed the passports belonged to their students after being contacted by police. A school spokesperson told xinmin.cn that the students were taking a train to Beijing to compete in a rugby tournament.

The teacher leading the students on the trip didn’t realize his mistake until the school called. According to the teacher, he was busy keeping an eye on the students and forgot the bag at the station, the report said.

The school sent a staff member to pick up the bag from the railway station. The staff member then took a plane to Beijing to return the passports since the students would not have been allowed to play in the tournament with them, reported the website.
