Teen boy attacks his English teacher with a hammer
SHANGHAI police have detained a boy for attacking his English teacher with a hammer.
The boy, a grade 11 student at Shanghai Tonghe Middle School in Baoshan District, hit his English teacher in the back of the head with a hammer yesterday, police said.
According to a witness, some teachers heard screaming from the English teacher’s office and immediately rushed inside. The teacher, a 37-year-old woman surnamed Yuan, was found lying on the floor with blood splattered about. The student fled before other teachers called police.
Yuan was sent to Shanghai No. 10 People’s Hospital and according to a doctor she was in a stable condition with a lacerated scalp.
According to police, the boy surrendered a few hours later and was accompanied by his father. He even turned in the hammer, police said.
According to other teachers, the boy is usually quiet. Police said they are still investigating the case and the motive behind the attack.
