Teenager detained for stabbing cabbie to death

Shanghai police have nabbed a 17-year-old suspect for fatally stabbing a taxi driver early yesterday in the city’s Minhang District.
The teenage from central China’s Henan Province allegedly took the taxi to meet a friend on Jinglian Road. He had no money and called his friend for help but his friend didn’t answer the phone. He then had a quarrel with the taxi driver and stabbed him to death as he was not willing to pay the fare.
The 53-year-old victim, surnamed Tang, was from suburban Fengxian District. The stabbing took place at about 2am yesterday near the gate of Shanghai Jinzheng Electronic Industry Co Ltd on Jinglian Road.
He was found dead in his Haibo Taxi car with severe neck wounds.
A security guard at Shanghai Jinzheng said the wounded driver tried to pull his car over to the company gate to get help.
