Testing finds no problems with gas
DON'T blame the gasoline, authorities said yesterday.
All samples of Shanghai's new IV-standard gasoline - faulted by drivers for causing severe engine knock and other problems - have passed quality testing, the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision said.
From here on, officials will study vehicles' adaptation to the new fuel, which has a lower sulphur content in deference to the environment.
In last two weeks, the bureau tested 47 samples from 45 gas stations. Earlier, the bureau said gasoline from two big gas plants also passed quality tests.
Drivers, however, were still complaining on online forums.
On xcar.com.cn, "open555" said his car vibrated fiercely when starting.
"Gas station workers said it was caused by the mixing of the new and the old type of gas," he said on the forum. "But how to confirm it, and when will it stop?"
Bureau officials said that, with the gas passing inspection, drivers should seek other answers, such as checking their vehicles.
The officials said they will try to find out whether some vehicles don't adapt to the new type of the gasoline.
