Town leader imprisoned for taking bribes from in-law

A senior township official in the city's suburban Fengxian District was sentenced to six years and six months in prison for helping his nephew-in-law to win construction projects and taking bribes of 460,000 yuan (US$72,913), local court said yesterday.
Song Jianhua, 52, was also fined 50,000 yuan, the court ruled.
Prosecutors said the deputy director of a small town in Fengxian was in charge of land lease and construction projects in the area.
From 2005 to 2010, Song took the advantage of his position to help his nephew-in-law, surnamed Sun, to get construction projects without holding a public tender.
In return, Sun gave Song kickbacks totaling 460,000 yuan between 2006 and 2010.
Song was under investigation after his nephew-in-law was charged with embezzlement in 2010. Song pleaded guilty and did not make an appeal after the court sentence.
