Toy story’s sad end for manager
A MAN who made and sold more than 34,000 fake Gundam models worth nearly 3.8 million yuan (US$547,882) has been sentenced to three and half years behind bars for infringement of copyright, Shanghai No.3 Intermediate People’s Court said.
Li Li, 33, ran a toy factory in Shantou City in Guangdong Province.
Between 2016 and September 2017, Li asked workers to make duplicates based on real Gundam models at his factory and sold them to a man called Lin Hong under the brand of “Dragon Peach.” Models sold at 73, 111.8 or 165.2 yuan.
The court found he had made Gundam models without getting approval from the Japanese-based toy maker Bandai. On charges of copyright infringement, he was jailed for three and half years, and fined 1.9 million yuan.
Lin is yet to face trial.
