Trade unions building opens to public
THE Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions building is open free to the public starting today, although visitors are required to first register online.
The building at No. 14 on the Bund joins another seven historic buildings in the iconic tourist area which already opened to the public in June.
These buildings are the Shanghai Archives, Shanghai Telecom Museum, Shanghai Fairmont Peace Hotel, The Bund Historical Memorial Hall, Bank of China, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and the former British Consulate Building.
The trade unions building was built in 1948 and designed by renowned Hungarian architect CH Gonda whose other works include the Cathay Theater on Huaihai Road and Capitol Theater on Huqiu Road.
Visitors can also see an ongoing exhibition in the trade unions building about the model workers who contributed greatly to Shanghai’s development.
