Traffic snarl as holiday ends

WITH the New Year holiday coming to an end, the city’s major highways were jammed with vehicles yesterday.
One of the major congestions was on G40 Highway (Shanghai-Shaanxi Province Highway) at 3pm due to a road accident involving two private cars. G40 links the Chongming Island to the Pudong New Area. Though there were no serious injuries, traffic along the road stretched over 4 kilometers long.
At the Zhuqiao Entrance on G15 in Jiading District, extra staff were mobilized at the toll gate to shorten the waiting time for vehicles to go through the gate. Some sections of G2 (Shanghai-Beijing Highway) and G50 highways also reported slow traffic as early as yesterday noon.
