Traffic violations by bikes on the rise
THE number of traffic violations by two-wheelers and illegal black cabs had gone up substantially, top officials from Shanghai police informed the local legislative body yesterday.
There have been over 1.4 million reported cases of traffic violations by motorcycles and electric bikes. Most of them involve illegally ferrying passengers for profits.
Police have seized 227,000 motorcycles this year.
The number of unlicensed cabs, or black cabs, has also gone up. Police caught 5,677 black cabs this year, nearly doubled that of last year.
Zhang Yan, a local legislator, wants an improvement in public transportation to rid the city of nuisance of motorcycles and illegal cabs.
