Two officials punished over tainted buns
OFFICIALS with Baoshan District quality authorities were punished for failing to prevent tainted steamed buns from entering the market, Shanghai government said yesterday.
Xing Xiaojin, deputy director of the Baoshan District Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, was deprived of salary raise for 18 months.
Wang Xinghua, deputy director of Baoshan District Food Production Supervision Office, was dismissed from his post.
Lianhua and Hualian supermarkets, which sold the buns, were also punished.
Earlier, Baoshan-based Shanghai Shenglu Food Co was found to make expired steamed buns into new ones by adding chemical additives and sold the buns through 10 markets in the city. The scandal was reported by CCTV and the company officials have been detained.
