Typhoon looms after week of heat
SHANGHAI will get a break from the scorching heat as Typhoon Jongdari approaches, weather authority said.
The city has been baking under high temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and above since Tuesday last week, according to local weather data.
Typhoon Jongdari, which made landfall on Japan on Sunday, has turn westerly and is now approaching China’s eastern coast.
Under the storm’s influence, scattered showers will hit Shanghai today, when the high temperature is set to reach 34 degrees. Thunderstorms will hit Shanghai tomorrow, and bring the high down to 32 degrees, forecasters say.
Based on its current path, Jongdari is expected to hit China’s coast somewhere between northern Zhejiang Province and northern Jiangsu Province on Friday. There is a chance the storm will reach Shanghai.
People living in coastal areas are warned to brace for heavy winds.
