Unlicensed cabbie on trial for murdering woman passenger

AN unlicensed taxi driver who allegedly killed a female passenger and dumped her body twice was tried yesterday in the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.
Guo Jun, 37, was charged with murder by prosecutors and accused of rape by the victim's family. The prosecutors said Guo picked up the 20-year-old victim, Xiao Li, near a hotel in surburban Jiading District in the wee hours of March 27.
On the way, Guo strangled Xiao Li to death, stripped her clothes and dumped the body in bushes, the court heard.
On April 7, Guo went back to the bushes to dispose of the corpse. He wrapped it with a bed sheet and drove on an elevated highway in Qingpu District and threw the body from the highway to the ground below, said the prosecutors.
Guo said he drank a lot on the night he picked up Xiao Li and she offered massage service for 200 yuan (US$31.43) to help him sober up.
"It was actually a sex deal," Guo told the court.
Prosecutors said the pair then had a dispute and Guo grabbed the throat of Xiao Li to prevent her from shouting. He then drove the fainted woman towards Baihe Town in Qingpu District but Xiao Li woke up and shouted again.
Guo told the court he strangled Xiaoli with a strip of cloth and found she was dead when he sobered up.
After he threw the body from the highway, Guo became haunted again and decided to find it and dump it into a river. But he drove away after seeing the body was stuck on a barbed wire fence, the court heard.
Guo was apprehended on April 15 after police received a report from people who saw the naked woman's body hanging on the wire fence under the Huqingping Highway.
