RULES introduced yesterday cracking down on unregistered vehicles carrying hazardous waste snared 12 by 10am at one toll gate on the G15 Shenhai Expressway, between Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. Checks were also conducted at two other toll gates. Vehicles carrying hazardous materials to or from Shanghai must first be registered in nationwide and city databases. Those not registered by September 20 face a fine of up to 8,000 yuan (US$1,250).
