Video sites plan more local shows
THE new viewing habits of young Chinese audiences are expected to prompt production of more variety shows by video sharing websites, speakers said at a TV forum at the ongoing 21st Shanghai TV Festival.
Industry insiders and experts believe that the future of variety shows in China will be more diversified, original and interactive in terms of audience tastes.
“Celebrity reality shows, mostly based on South Korean formats, are popular these days, but we want to produce our own variety shows catering to the Chinese netizens,” said Ma Yankun, chief producer and deputy general manager of Tencent Video.
“These shows can tell real-life stories of ordinary people and display humanity and emotions. It can have a big market potential.”
This month Tencent will present “The 15 of Us,” a reality show that will run through the year.
