Volunteers wanted for tourism zone
SHANGHAI International Tourism and Resorts Zone, which has the Disney resort as its centerpiece, is looking for volunteers.
Seven hundred people are needed to help maintain order, give directions, assist disabled tourists and serve as interpreters for foreigners when the zone opens to the public at the end of April, the government announced over the weekend.
Tourists will be able to find the volunteers at bus terminals, shuttle bus stops, metro stations, parking lots, and the Disney park’s entries and exits on weekends and Chinese national holidays, and during the school summer holiday.
“We estimate that we will need 100 to 120 volunteers during peak times and 130 to 150 during super peak times,” said Qiu Yichuan, an official with the state-owned Shanghai Shendi Group, which operates the Shanghai Disney Resort in cooperation with the Walt Disney Company.
Qiu said the volunteers will be given training in April before they go on duty.
The first volunteers will be recruited from 10 universities in Shanghai, most of which have campuses in Pudong, where the zone is located, as well as from local communities. But any resident can apply.
Shanghai Youth League Committee said the recruitment notice will be published on its WeChat accounts qingchunshanghai and shvolunteer.
“We welcome foreigners who study, work and live in Shanghai to apply,” said Zhou Liuyun, an official with the committee.
