Website pays dearly for illegal broadcasting
PPLIVE.COM, a popular domestic movie and TV Website, was yesterday ordered to pay 84,875 yuan (US$12,409) compensation to Megajoy Corp Ltd for infringing copyright of five productions: films "the Longest Night in Shanghai," which stars Zhao Wei, and "Jing Wu Men," starring Fan Bingbing, and three domestic TV serials.
Megajoy said it owns the exclusive right to broadcast the works on the Internet and Pplive distributed the works without permission and caused it economic loss.
Pplive claimed it did not store the works on its servers and offered links to the productions on other Websites.
But the Pudong New Area People's Court said the IP addresses of the broadcast were operated by Pplive and they didn't check the copyright.
