Wet and windy days as Nakri approaches

WET weather is forecast for today and the rest of the week, due to the effect of Tropical Storm Nakri, the city weather authorities said yesterday.
As Nakri — the 12th named tropical storm this year — approaches, strong winds and rain are likely in the city from today through to Sunday.
Nakri, which formed at 2am yesterday over the Pacific Ocean, was recorded centered at about 850 kilometers southeast of Taiwan at 2pm yesterday and is moving northwest.
It is likely to continue moving north offshore tonight but landfall in neighboring Zhejiang or Jiangsu provinces can’t be ruled out, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
A high temperature alert was issued at 2pm yesterday, as the high reached 35.1 degrees Celsius on a sunny day, under the influence of subtropical high pressure.
But skies are forecast to become overcast this afternoon with some scattered showers.
A high temperature of 34 degrees Celsius is expected today, said forecasters.
Overcast and wet weather will last through Saturday, with temperatures of between 26 and 31 degrees.
Clearer skies will return on Sunday and Monday but with the threat of thundershowers, the bureau said.
The railway authorities said yesterday that they will stop selling tickets for services that could be in the path of Nakri.
