Wet road warning
AN underpass on Xinxi Road in Minhang District has become the first in the city to be fitted with a new device that warns drivers of ponding on the road ahead. If water levels reach danger levels — a depth of 20 centimeters or more — a signal is sent to a control center, which can then alert drivers by posting messages on LED screens erected at each entrance to the underpass. The system was installed in response to the mayhem caused by typhoon Fitow last October, which left underpasses across the city inundated and a huge number of cars submerged.
