Woman dies in fall from 24th floor in Jing'an

AN OLDER woman died after falling from the 24th floor of a residential building in Jing'an District in Shanghai this morning.

Police are investigating the death and have not said what they believe was the cause.

The woman was sent to a hospital after the incident, where she was pronounced dead. A relative of the woman, who fainted from grief, was also sent to the hospital, a community worker said.

At around 10:30am, the woman fell from the building on Fengyang Road. Witnesses saw her hit the branches of a nearby tree, and then crash to the ground.

"She fell so fast," a witness said. "I thought it was a piece of clothing dropping at first."

A part of the fence around the residence was knocked off during the incident. The site cleaned up by community workers within two hours.
