Woman held over iPhone bogus deals
A WOMAN has been detained for allegedly defrauding at least eight people of 3 million yuan (US$460,000) by advertising iPhone 6s Plus at bargain prices, Pudong police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Zhang, fished customers by first selling them authentic iPhone 6s Plus that were cheaper by 1,000 yuan than that available in the market. Zhang claimed the phones were purchased “from the factory,” police said. IPhone 6s Plus costs over 5,000 yuan in China.
One of Zhang’s customers, a man surnamed Xu who runs his own online shop, told the police that he thought Zhang had a solid deal after purchasing 11 phones from her in October last year. But Xu, who continued to order phones from Zhang, said she started to delay the deliveries of the phones from December and then simply vanished after he paid 1.5 million yuan to her for more phones. Zhang surrendered on January 5.
