Woman in drugs deal given a life sentence

A WOMAN who brought drugs to Shanghai was given a life sentence yesterday.

A man who bought some was jailed for 16 years for possession, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court said.

Peng Yufang, 24, a Sichuan Province native, was told by a drug dealer to take 815 grams of ice, or crystal methamphetamine hydrochloride, from Chengdu, capital of the southwest Sichuan Province, to the city's Qingpu District on March 12.

Chen Zhitao met her at a hotel. He was with his girlfriend, who will be dealt with in a separate case.

He took one of two packs Peng had brought after bargaining with the dealer over the phone, the court heard.

Peng said she didn't know what she carried was drugs.
