Woman sues Xiaomi after phone fails to impress
A WOMAN who was upset with the Xiaomi smartphone she bought two years ago took her grievance to court yesterday.
The plaintiff, surnamed Liu, accused the Beijing-based company of false advertising, after her Mi2 handset failed to meet her expectations, the Pudong New Area People’s Court heard.
According to Liu, she began experiencing problems with the phone soon after buying it from Xiaomi’s website for 1,999 yuan (US$320) on January 12, 2013.
It was not clear if Liu had ever asked for a refund or replacement, but the court said she filed a compensation claim after discovering that Xiaomi had been charged with making exaggerated advertising claims in April 2014.
Last September, Liu filed a lawsuit demanding compensation of 15,996 yuan.
A verdict wasn’t reached yesterday.
