Worker kills two in debt dispute
A BULDING worker today admitted murdering two people and severely injuring a 15-month-old baby while trying to recover an 8,000 yuan (US$1,171) debt, Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court heard.
Zhang Mingkai, 37, from Anhui Province, was charged with murder and robbery.
Prosecutors said Zhang strangled an unlicensed taxi driver with a piece of rope to steal his minibus, intending to drive it to the debtor's house.
But on the way, Zhang crashed the minibus, damaging it beyond repair. He then made his way to the debtor's house but found he was away. Enraged, he took an iron pipe and bludgeoned the debtor's daughter to death and beat up her baby son.
Judges heard the case today without handing down a verdict.
