Xi book published
A BOOK about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speeches is now available in bookstores and online in Shanghai. The Chinese version of “Approachable: The Charm of Xi Jinping’s Words” was compiled and recently launched by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press to illustrate Xi’s easy-going language style. An English version is planned for next year. The book’s Chinese name for “approachable” — ping yi jin ren — contains the same two characters as Xi’s first name. The book includes 70 words, phrases and sentences from Xi’s speeches, informal talks, addresses, answers to questions from the press, approvals and congratulatory letters from between 2012 and 2014. These are divided into three categories — metaphors, slangs and ancient Chinese poems. The book also offers notes about the historical and social background to Xi’s ideas.
