A new drainage system in Yangpu District will be finished next month, in time to cope with the flood season.
Officials said yesterday that the Dandong Drainage System along Huangpu River would mainly protect the under-construction riverside pedestrian paths in Yangpu and nearby residential areas from being flooded.
Another two major drainage systems, named Songpan and South Minxing, are under construction along the Yangpu riverside area.
They would be completed by the end of the year, the district government said.
